I hope that all members of our community had a lovely half term.  It is great to see the positive attitudes that our students in years 11 and 13 are showing towards their GCSEs and A Levels.  Their hard work and dedication is something that we as a school are proud of and I'm sure you are too.

We were visited at the end of April by Ofsted but have not yet received the final report.  Please do make sure you read the 'What's happening at KAS' update which is coming home with students today and is also available on our website.  Once we receive the final report we will be holding a parents' evening.

Today marks the start of the GCSE exams for our year 11 students, with the Religion and Philosophy exam.  I'm sure this date has come around very quickly for them and their families.  We are very proud of how hard they have worked in preparation for these exams - it is now time for them to show us all how brilliant they are.

The inaugural meeting of the King Alfred School Parents' forum has been rescheduled for Tuesday 6th June 2017 at 6.30pm - a letter will follow next week for those parents who would like to attend.  This meeting will discuss how we can all work together to improve our school.

We are yet to receive our Ofsted report but will, of course, inform parents when it is published.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

What a fantastic term we have had with brilliant performances from students both in academic subjects, sport and dance.  The Creative writing competition hosted here by our school on behalf of Somerset was also a proud moment for me as Headteacher seeing many of our students read their stories aloud to an invited audience of family and friends - many of our students were prize winners too.  The dance production saw students from year 7 - 11 perform dances from classical to contemporary, choreographed by themselves and Miss Lamb - 2 great performances with large audiences watching.  We finish the term off today with our celebration of World Book Day - watch this space for photo's to follow!

Please download a copy of our newsletter from the website to find out more about the great progress our students have made this term and the developments in school.

Have a safe Easter

Fantastic sporting week!  Our Year 7's won the football final against Haygrove PE in extra time, fantastic team spirit and dedication.  Our own Mr Bowker ran the London Marathon on Sunday for the charity @smilewithsiddy supporting their work in treating, preventing and increasing awareness of Neuroblastoma.  A strong time of 4:14:11.

Parents will be aware that we were visited by Ofsted this week.  Our students were fantastic and showed how great they are.  Further details will follow once we receive the full report.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend

Today has been busy with students and their families attending their Academic Review Day appointments.  It has been lovely to see students talking about their learning and progress in school with their family and tutor.  Lots of encouragement has been given and targets set for next steps for the rest of the year.

Many adults who have been on to site during the last 2 weeks will have noticed the green fencing that is being erected.  Students had reported that they didn't always feel safe due to the openness of the school site and the number of adults coming on to the site to use the Sports Centre.  As such, the Governors and I made the decision to fence the school site, controlling the entry of visitors during school hours.  After the Easter holidays, the fencing gates will be shut during the school day and any visitor or student who needs to enter or leave the site once the school day is up and running will do so via a gate system; this will include 1610 users.

On April 25th, we are holding our inaugural Parents' Forum to discuss the School's strengths and the areas needing further development.  Everyone should have received a letter about this today when attending the school.  If you would like further information please contact the school office in the first instance.
