The Mathematics Department is well established with a team of experienced teachers. We aim to encourage all students to work to the best of their ability, to be confident in their use of mathematics and to enjoy the challenge of problem solving.

We are based in D block where all classrooms are equipped with ceiling mounted Data Projectors and the majority of rooms have Interactive whiteboards which enable the use of interactive software. In addition to this we use one of a number of computer suites within the school; this enables students to use a variety of programs including ‘MyMaths’ which is also a valuable revision tool.

Students are taught on entry in Year 7 in parallel bands, each containing up to 4 maths sets depending on the size of the year group, this continues into Year 8.  In Years 9 to 11, students are taught in half year groups with up to 6 or 7 sets in each half dependent on numbers. We follow the Edexcel GCSE scheme with the final exams being sat at the end of Key Stage 4. Maths is one of the few GCSE exams which does not have a controlled assessment element.

Post 16 we offer AQA AS and A2 courses in Maths and Further Maths.

We regularly enter national Mathematics competitions and challenges and we have been very successful over the years.
