Year 7 Literacy & Numeracy Catch-up

In 2013 the Government made a commitment to provide annual additional educational funding to schools for each Year 7 pupil who had not achieved level 4 in reading and/or mathematics at Key Stage 2. Schools received additional funding of £500 for each Year 7 pupil who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or mathematics at Key Stage 2.

King Alfred School, like all schools in Somerset, is committed to meeting the needs of all pupils including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Our expectation is that children and young people with SEND will receive an education that enables them to make progress so that they:

·         achieve their best

·         become confident individuals living fulfilling lives

·         make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further or higher education or training

We will use our best endeavours to make sure that a pupil with SEND receives the support they need – this means doing everything we can to meet the pupils special educational needs.

Learning Support Department

Welcome to the Learning Support Department

The King Alfred School is committed to the principle that wherever possible all students with special educational needs will be fully included in their local mainstream school.   Students attend all of their lessons and have access to the full curriculum providing a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum according to their needs.

In some cases students may be supported in their lessons by Learning Support Assistants, withdrawn to work in smaller groups or those with more complex needs may follow individual support programmes.
