I'm very excited that we are starting to plan our 60th birthday celebrations.  Mrs Williams in the library is leading these plans with a group of dedicated students.  Their visit to the Somerset Heritage Centre to find out more about our past history will play a leading part in how we mark this special event.  Please do get involved with helping us celebrate.

Year 8 have been brilliant in returning their options forms on time and we are the process of sorting these to find out how our students will focus their time in Key Stage 4 here from September 2017.

I have also been delivering assemblies to students about our new Be Proud plan.  This has been designed by staff with consultation to students to really develop the learning we provide day in day out in our classrooms.  It is exciting to see the positive response of all those involved in this development.  I will be delivering parent sessions on Academic Review Day to explain the plan - further details to follow.

The Dance production last week was inspiring - seeing students from all year groups work together to put on such a professional show was fantastic - my thanks to all those involved in making it happen.

We had a fantastic evening on Thursday 23rd February 2017 learning more about the GCSE and BTEC courses on offer to our students in year 8.  After an informative talk from Mr Herbert with advice about how to make the best use of the choices on offer students and their families were able to quiz our subject staff about their courses.  The passion and enthusiasm that staff have for their subjects and how excited the students are about personalising their learning in key stage 4 was clear to see.

We have also enjoyed listening to student voice about the development of our 'Be Proud' plan.  It is lovely to hear the opinions of our students on how they would like to see our school improve and be able to develop plans to put their ideas into practice.

Please remember it is an INSET day on Monday 27th February 2017.

Last Thursday saw a very busy year 8 parents' evening in the main school hall.  Student and parent attendance was high and there were a huge number of conversations about which subjects to choose to study in Year 9.  The students will have an extended tutor time this Thursday with their tutors, Mr Tipler and Mr Herbert to talk about the range of subjects on offer and how to make the right choices.

We have had a fantastic half term with many great events happening and planned.  The Sports residential trip to Devon was a great success and saw students taking part in a very varied range of sports.  Year 8 received their Options booklets yesterday and I know are considering and planning their futures - very exciting.  After half term Year 11 have their second set of PPE exams (mocks) which will give them chance to show how their hardwork and involvement is paying off.  It was an honour to present Year 7 with their Transition Leader badges this morning in assembly after a very competitive application and interview process, well done to all those who put themselves forward to develop our school.

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Edinburgh University on behalf of the school.  Every year the Headteachers of Schools in Somerset visit a University to find out more about the student experience.  Edinburgh University was easily accessed via a 1 hour flight and 30 minute tram ride straight into the City Centre.  The University provides a very wide range of courses including Medicine, Veterinary Science, Nursing, History, Languages and Sports Science.  The facilities on offer for both study and living were of a great quality and inspiring.  Having the opportunity to talk to year 12 about this in assembly and show them photographs of this wonderful city rounded off a great trip.
